Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) is a treatment procedure using a tool to locate and treat soft tissue dysfunction.
Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) is a technique that uses instruments to break down scar tissue from injured soft tissue and facilitate healing. Physical therapists use specially designed instruments to detect and treat fascial and myofascial restrictions, scar tissue, fibrosis and chronic inflammation.
In addition to promoting healing, IASTM allows physical therapists to more easily locate and treat tissue dysfunction. IASTM as part of a treatment plan can decrease pain, increase range of motion, shorten rehabilitation and stimulate the body’s healing response again.
“The confidence I have gained in a long knee injury / pain since coming to Physical Therapy of the Rockies has been tremendous. Other physical therapy clinics send me on my independent way with repetitive exercises. Physical Therapy of the Rockies has given me individualized attention, both hands on and in unique exercises. I have enjoyed my therapy and will be back.”
